My deaf music listening process

I absolutely love when artist place the lyrics of their music in the cd sleeve….it’s like LIFE to me! I must have lyrics. That’s the way I decide whether or not I like a song enough to go through the rest of my “listening” process for it. A great place to find lyrics if they are not included with the Cd, are on websites like Lyrics Mania and Metro Lyrics. I find that the lyrics are pretty accurate on these sites, though if you know the lyrics to a particular song already, you may find slight errors from time to time.

I have a secret weapon when it comes to being hipped to new music artist though. One of my friends, who’s love for music makes mine pale in comparison, writes articles for Music Addickts. She goes by the name “C Notes”. I read her articles like the one here and thus begin my exploration of a new artist. Music videos, with the aid of caption, helps me to keep up with what’s current as well. With all the videos and other media available online, the captioning game reeeaaallllyyy needs to be stepped up times 100. *Tapping microphone* (Is this thing on?!)

But anyway, once I have my lyrics and my music…it’s time to listen…and listen…and listen some more. It takes me many listening sessions of just one song, before I began to “get it”.  Even then, it’s not the full sound. Most of the singers sound chipmunk-ish, with a mouth full of cotton to some degree, but it’s music. I Iove it, and can’t imagine life without it. Is that dedication or what??

This is all made possible by my previously (b/f H. L.) owned extensive music collection, my “pinky nail” of residual hearing, The Diva (of course) and…..

And there you have it! Any questions? If so, feel free to ask it in comments or click the “Contact” tab up top, to ask it privately. As always I appreciate you taking this journey with me, until next time…
